(A) genuine diamonds from imitation diamonds
(B) genuine diamonds apart from imitations
(C) between genuine diamonds and imitation diamonds
(D) among genuine diamonds and imitation diamonds
(E) whether diamonds are imitation or genuine

C is correctly using the construction discriminate between X and Y.
Also the construction "discriminate between X's" is correct.

The answer is C, this is an idiom question - discriminate between is the correct usage. Btw, please underline the relevant portion of the question while posting.

You are comparing between original & fake hence 2 quantities, thus idiom " between.... and " is correct

Between is used to compare only two things or objects and we should also remember that the conjunction 'and ' must come after between to make grammatically correct on other hand Among is used to compare more than two things or objects

Here, in the given question we are comparing the genuine and imitated diamonds so only two objects so, we should use between so the only option showing between is c so which is our right answer.

a. ‘Discrimination’ doesn’t take ‘from’ as a preposition with it.
b. Same error as ‘a’.
c. ‘Discrimination’ takes ‘against’, ‘on’, ‘between’, ‘among’, ‘as’ and ‘by’ as prepositions along with it. So, option ‘c’ is grammatically true.
d. ‘among’ should be used for more than two people or things.
e. ‘Whether’ doesn’t go with ‘Discrimination’.
Hence, c is the answer.

Ok here is my explanation:

Meaning Analysis: after few weeks of experience. apprentices jewelers can differentiate between two things genuine and imitation diamonds

A: Here use from is giving meaning as jewelers are able to differentiate genuine diamonds from the group of imitation diamonds which is illogical
B: Here again illogical meaning : so apart from telling differentiation between imitation diamonds jewellers can differentiate between genuine diamonds
C: This is correct as comparison is clear among the two types of entities
D: Among is used to do the comparison between more than two things
E: differentiate and whether is redundant
