I just took the GMAT this morning and completely bombed the test. I work full time and have a few kids and now realize that I was woefully unprepared. I got stuck badly on the timing. In the verbal section I had about 4 minutes to answer the last 13 questions -- basiclly guessed. I tried to study on and off over the past 2 months, but never really focused. I used a dummies book and tried to work thorugh the practice exam questions. I never took a full timed test, or worked all the sections in a single sitting, like the exam.

Bottom line, you must study for this test. It has been years since college, and I am a horrible standardized test taker. I appearently also live in fantasy land thinking I should have even showed up today. To others, take my advise, study hard, and don't wait until you have been working for 10 year to take the test.

I see others that have studied hard for 3 or 4 months, and now feel foolish. Back to the books!

Took mine in May. Studied for a few weeks and got 730 and a 6.0 AWA.
Quite happy considering the little preparation I had, but definitely feel I could have done quite a bit better if I had preparaed for a little longer.

What did you do in a few weeks that helped you break 700?

Re: GMAT Experience Thread [#permalink]
hey folks,
i am yet to appear for GMAT.
I have few questions.

1. The GMAT score for Quant and Verbal : is it available for us at the end of respective section?
2. Do we come to know our score before completing the exam?
3. When are we suppose to give the names of B-schools?

pls revert.

1. No. Scores are only give at the end of the exam
2. At the end of the exam, the score will be made available to you, exactly as if you completed a GMAT prep
3. At the beginning, before you start

Hope this helps!

I took it a few months ago and did OK. I was getting tired towards the end and felt the urge to take a break and walk around which I had to suppress. Def need to work on endurance. I actually did better in Quant than Verbal which surprised me. Will probably take it again!
