IESE started operations in 1958 with executive programs and began offering a 2-year MBA in the Harvard model from 1964.
The early history was common for Spanish programs in the 1950s:
- strong American influence
- early stress on executive/local manager programs and

- FT 2003 ranks IESE #18 worldwide - between Georgetown and Cornell.
- EIU 2003 places IESE #28 worldwide - below IE and HEC Paris and below Notre Dame and Emory.
