Not sure how many folks are bringing a car -- but may I suggest a bar close to the EL for those coming from Evanston. Probably between the Belmont and Fullerton stops.

sorry to spoil the plans, but us, Rossies, have Ross Leadership Initiative (required stuff) starting on August 21st. So ... I think August 20th would work the best for Rossies.

Even though it might be possible for us to just drive out there right after RLI, which ends at about 5:30 pm every day

Maybe we should plan it for the weekend before that. No one will have school commitments on a weekend and it would give people traveling time to get back and forth without missing anything. Also, significant others could show up even if they have started working already too.

So how about Saturday, August 16th? Its a weekend - people can come in... its before random walks, before the Ross accounting waiver, etc.

I'll see if I can make it that weekend (8/16), Haas orientation week starts somewhere around there, so I may not to fly back right before the thing. If I don't make this one, I'll definitely try to make it out sometime later in the semester/quarter/year. :)

POLL RESULTS ARE OUT
---------------------------------------------------------------

Given that the overwhelming majority (fully 70%) fall here:

August 14th - 15th (Thursday - Friday) 14% 14% [ 2 ]
August 16th (Saturday) 35% 35% [ 5 ] x
August 17th (Sunday) 21% 21% [ 3 ]

How about we plan for Saturday the 16th?

Benefits:

1. If anyone needs to fly in or whatever they can and still get back out on Sunday in time for any commitments on Monday.
2. Those who straddle (14% and 21%) presumably would be OK with the Sat date...
3. Doesn't conflict with Ross Accounting, or KWEST or Random Walk or pre-mba stats or accounting at the GSB.

Thoughts?

If thats the plan, then the next step is to pick what we do.

Do people want to do something at night, during hte day, or both?

I am glad we have a date!

I vote for an evening event.

Is anyone from Ross comming? If anyone else is interested, let's make travel arrangements together to save on gas/car.

Cheers!

Evening event possibilities & suggestions:

1. To make it convenient for everyone going to the GSB and Kellogg, I'd suggest somewhere between the two (maybe downtown/lincoln park/ lakeview) and near the L. Downtown risks being pretty $$ (unless we go somewhere like a TGI Fridays or something) so bang per buck, we are probably better off in LP / LV, but I'm quite open to where we go. If anyone has recommendations, ideas or preferences, by all means, throw em out.

2. My thought was to do a cheap reasonable BYOB dinner (we can easily get the night going with this alone) and then move on to a bar or six. Again, these are just my ideas, suggest away. If we wanna keep it reasonably $'d, there are some great BYOB places like Tango Sur (I had a 14 person event there recently and had a BLAST)

See: https://chicago.metromix.com/restaurants ... 83/content)

Another option could be Andalous:
https://chicago.metromix.com/restaurants ... 67/content

Tango Sur would probably be about $30 a head. Andalous maybe $20. BYOB helps keep cost down. There are many other choices as well.

3. Finally, if you are interested in attending, please sign up for the google group so we can coordinate and I can remind people as we get closer to the date.

https://groups.google.com/group/chicagolandgmatclub

4. If you plan on attending and we do a dinner, at some point we will need a headcount as a group of 12 or 15 people can't just walk into a restaurant in Chicago on a Saturday night and expect to be served before Sunday.

I am sure we will have a lot more people than you realize. I think a good percentage of us are married or have significant others...heck I know my wife has made friends with the significant others of other posters, who she will want to hang out with. Not saying it we have to allow significant others but since most of us are going to be new to the city it would be nice to include them instead of leaving them home alone on a Saturday night with nothing to do...plus can all joke about our "internet" friendships haha.

Naw they have to have their own name. I propose utterly unfeminine names based on cuts of steak like "T-Bone" and "Porterhouse" or "Beef Wellington". Often combined with how its cooked adds value eg "Charred T-Bone" or "Raw Tenderloin"

"Yo, riverripper, meet Darden2010. Darden2010 is going to Ross this year. Yea, I agree, its gonna be really hard not to get stares from his classmates with a name like that. Anyhow, Darden2010, this is Porterhouse Rare, riverriper's girl."

+2 points if the reservation is made under an internet name.
