I used the GMAT 800 book and I thought it was super hard but it really prepared me well. I was getting about 3 out of every 4 wrong but it really toughened me up. I'd recommend it but be prepared for your ego to take a beating.

Good book, although you might need to give it a repeat read to digest all the info. Some extra tested mistakes in SC section.

Excellent resource in your final weeks of review. I am not quite sure if any of the hard questions from the Kaplan 2005 book are repeated in the 800 book. Any thoughts?

No repeats. 800 has different questions. RC and SC in 800 aren't that difficult imo. CR's are. Few hard math questions.

the verbal part is really challenging.

Also the math explanations are good. you'll get some tips how to solve them.

IMO if u have KAP 2005 (CD) and use GMATCLUB challenges for Math, you will not need this book. Only +ve about this book is good CR, that's all. Math is a waste of time, so are the SCs and RCs. Their footnotes, like "a 800 test taker will do blah blah", are specially annoying. KAP's idea of creating tough SCs seems to be to jumble up sentences and create ambiguous choices. They are not of GMAT quality. Needless to say that KAP RCs are not representative of GMAT RCs as well.

I bought this book after not getting my ideal score after 2 attempts. I have to say that I quite like its methodology. I've only reviewed the verbal portion, which is where I need help... but the problems are challenging and the responses insightful.

If your goal is more than 700 on the GMAT, then yes, get it.
