In a town containing a tourist attraction, hotel and restaurant revenues each increased more rapidly over the past year than did revenue from the sale of passes to the attraction, which are valid for a full year. This led those in charge of the attraction to hypothesize that visitors were illicitly selling or sharing the passes.
Each of the following, if true, helps to undermine the hypothesis of those in charge of the tourist attraction EXCEPT:
(A) During the past year other tourist attractions have opened up in the area.
(B) Those possessing passes made more frequent trips to the attraction last year than in previous years.
(C) While the cost of passes is unchanged since last year, hotel and meal prices have risen.
(D) The local board of tourism reports that the average length of stay for tourists remained unchanged over the past year.
(E) Each pass contains a photograph of the holder, and during the past year these photographs have usually been checked.
IMHO (D) clearly...
(A) If other tourist attracts opened, then visitors will be attracted to those centres and will not be interested in old centers, leading to hotel expenses of those visitors without purchasing passes of old attractions .
(B) If visitors paid more visits then footfall increased (Without purchase of new passes for the attractions) and visitors continued to have meals at the Hotels and Restaurants (increasing their revenue) .
(C) If meal prices of hotels increased it will lead to increased revenue of Hotels.
(D) If average length of stay remains the same then it means people stayed the same length however there is an increase in meals at hotels , How can it be possible, without additional purchase of passes ? Somthing is fishy .
(E) If passes contain photograph there is no question of illicitly selling or sharing the passes as they will be easily be caught.
Hence, IMHO (D) must be correct !!!!
