Strategy: Plan, Execute, Report

Competition part is more about efforts instead of results. We all will be working on different schedule and we really can not share results to compare each other.

But I am hoping that by just seeing others kicking it hard, one may be inclined to put some extra efforts to achieve his/her goal.

Here is my plan thu - sun

75 SC questions from 1000SC doc
35 questions from from 1000 RC ( ~ 5 passages)
10 - 20 CR's from 1000CR doc

PR 2 exam on Sat
Kaplan exam on Sun

Remember all: Always time youself - work on blocks of questions -- I just learnt that this is very important

I guess you're right about the competition... it does motivate you... My mind just picked on that word without thinking through the whole message.

Ok... I finished reviewing Kaplan and PR today (week 1)... feels like I didn't get anything new out of it...

Quizzes... hit rate from 76% to 88%... some surprises on SC part... I thought it was my strength, but proved wrong by Kaplan... I read that verbal part of Kaplan should not be trusted, so I would not worry about it for now. CR was lowest, which I always knew... have to work harder on it...

My score on Kaplan book test was 550 (q32,v27)... don't really know what to make out of it... but I will take it for now. However, I spent extra 5 min on quant and extra 10 on verbal...

Strategy for Week 2:
Try to go through Nova Book, do the Problem Sets in Quant, work on accuracy.
I also decided to sign up for GMAX course... I will try to go through some of the sessions as well.

Here is my plan for the week 5/22 - 5/28

Average Daily: 3 Hour
Weekend: 6 hour each Day

To work out all questions from OG 11.

PS -- 30 Qns per day
DS -- 20 per day
CR -- 20 per day
SC -- 25 per day
RC -- 5 per day

Report: Weak of 14/21

Overall Execution:
Three GMAT Challanges
One Test (No AWA)
30 SC
10 CR
0 RC

Learning:
Need to be sincere next week and came up with more achievable goals
Need to improve Ratio, Rate and Probability
Need to focus on Tense and auxilary in SC

Average Daily: 2-3 Hour (scaled back from last week)
Weekend: 4-6 hour each Day

SC:
100 SC from OG
Kaplan800 SC, And understand Tense, and auxiliaries

CR:
Do 50 CR from OG
Read Kaplan800 CR (S)

RC:
15 Paragraphs from OG read explaination of even correct answers.

PS:DS
Take five challenges
Work on probability, Ration, Mixure and Rate

Exam:
Take One full test WITH AWA

AWA
Read and think about 10 issues and 10 arguments

Just a small point for this thread - there are really very few OG questions, and some of you are using lots of practice examples from everywhere before you actually study. Later, if you need to learn actual content, you will not have much you can use to practice with. If you study only or mostly from examples, you are touching points of knowledge, instead of gaining the major and general knowledge so necessary for high grades on the GMAT.
If you are investing so much time and effort in studying, do it really well - learn and then practice what you've learned. Leave plenty of random questions to do after you have gained as much knowledge as you can.

Given that materail for preparation is going to be limited, will it not be wise not to exhaust all the questions well before the exam date?

In my opinion, one should only go full throttle with all the practice material when he/she has finalized his/her strategy for tackling the different kinds of questions.

As and when u take pratice full-tests, u will know where u are going wrong and refine ur strategies accordingly.

Well I am in the infancy stage of studying.

I spend about 2 hours a day and 4 hours a day on the weekends.

2 hours a day and 4 hours a week and quite mature stage for lot of us

Very open ended question so tough to answer!

First get understand what GMAT is all about. To find out where you stand, take one or two diagnostic test and analyze to get picture of your strengths and weaknesses.

Simultaneously, I would suggest that you read some of debriefing of people who have already taken GMAT! See how they prepared to get an idea…

Once you go thorough these steps you will have better idea about your caliber and you can deside your goals accordingly, Than create plan and share...so people can comment on it!

look at the excel file in this chain of discussions we had.. that shows the books/topics used to study..

This is Raghu, from Hyderabad. I recently started my prepn and plannin to take my exam in august. I started with the OG. Got mostly abover average and avg in all the sections...so confused...where to start studyin..

Did any of u guys, take the OG diagnostic test?? and what were your scores??
