Re: Diesel engines burn as much as 30% less fuel than gasoline [#permalink]
thanks UVS mba, unfortunatelly the answer is A. I agree with you though which is why I still don't see why is A better than B. Can anyone help out?

HI,
1 reason I could see for A is in the last word h'having' which is a wrong modifier. It implies that gasolin Engines have been implicated for global warming. Whereas it is the gases that have been implicated.

Not Sure.. But I am pretty confident that I am right..

Tough but I am saying B. "Emit" should be parallel to "burn", and "having" is clearly subordinate, describing the gases...

I can understand u r thought Diegmat.. But that's exactly the trap GMAT guys have set.. remember we hv to select the best answer not the correct one ..

In this case B is modifying the whole meaning of the statement whereas A is just not parellel.. Tht's hw I a m taking it as.. even I could hv chosen B if I had attempted this question 1st time ..

regards..

A)as well as emitting far less carbon dioxide gas and far fewer of the other gases that have

B)as well as emit far less carbon dioxide gas and far fewer of the other gases having

please explain...

The problem with A is that "...as well as..." always connects like terms. So, burn -> emit, as in B.

The problem with B is that 'that have' is the correct form to use here. It is the gases that are modified, not the gasoline engines.

Use the better choice? What is better? A sentence with a parallelism problem, or a sentence with a verb usage problem?
