I would add that for consulting, it doesn’t so much matter which school you go to. On the surface that is. But behind and below the surface, I’d really matters to have a good consulting club and a strong pipeline into consulting firms. I feel pretty much All of the schools have strong MBB presence. I don’t know about pepper as I haven’t looked at their employment report but I assume it does.
Some schools have a stronger consulting placement by the way and that’s not because they teach something amazing or their brand-name. Nobody cares to hire a consultant from a particular school. What matters is how well you’re doing the interview. You are a strong interviewer and familiar with consulting interviews, you can go anywhere. If you’re not a strong interviewer, the case method at Darden will force you to be a better interviewer. Also a strong consulting club like at Tuck and everyone there who also help you be a better interviewer. Having easier access to second years who have already gotten an internship and perhaps an offer in a consulting firm who also help you quite a bit.
In terms of placement into an office, my understanding is that this is mostly self selection. You can put up to three or five offices on your application for preference. Keeping in mind that the salary is the same regardless of the office, you do keep a lot more money if you work out of place such as Charlotte or Dallas then you do out of a place such as New York. I’ve heard that the chances for all the offices tend to be very similar. That is from people who went through the process.
So placement into the New York office is probably not an indicator or a merit of the school but the preference of the graduates.
